Colombia, the land of the squeezy bags

A favorite hobby of ours is browsing through grocery stores- especially in new countries. For the most part, Bogota is pretty on-par with most grocery stores in the States. One difference we noticed- almost right away- is the love of resealable bags as packaging for almost any liquid. Not sure what I mean? Take a look!

First- it’s the typical ketchup, mustard and BBQ sauce100_1521

Then some spices100_1518

How about garlic paste? Onion paste? Pasta sauce?100_1516

  How about milk?100_1522

Cream?100_1520

Jam and Marmalade?   100_1523

Pineapple paste? 100_1524

And squeezy bags aren’t limited to food… it’s also soap, dish soap, cleaning supplies and many other delightful thing! 100_1525

Alice in Wonderland (take 2)

Today was the second night of our performances of Alice in Wonderland. Not only was it a great night, the students continue to surprise us (my co-director and I) with new, funny antics. Every show is different… and BETTER! I am so proud and amazed at the actors!!!

The amazing thing is how relaxed and calm I have been the past few days. There was so much being done the past few weeks that since the performances have begun, my life is a calm and I am able to enjoy the show.

Just to brag a little: here they are!

And just to prove that my co-director and I are sane- here’s a picture!

Alicia en el Pais de las Maravillas

If you know me, you know I like long-term projects. The ones that have lots of pieces and I get to see them all come together. Well, this year I took on the long term project of co-directing the high school play “Alice in Wonderland”. When I started I can honestly say that I knew it would be a project- a fun kind of project. But little did I know just how BIG of a project this would really be.

Thankfully I have a wonderful co-director who did this last year and we make a great team. Many, many times through this process we come up with the same idea and run with it! It’s been great.

Oh, and the actors? They are pretty great too! We have some amazing talent and lots of energy, so it has been fun to see things come together piece by piece.

And speaking of pieces- there are a lot: acting, blocking, stagecraft, props, costumes, make up, lights, music, choreography, tickets.. it’s enough to drive one batty. Thankfully we were able to pull from talented, wonderful people in our school and church community to help us out.

Thursday is opening night. I AM SO EXCITED. I am excited to see my actors give their all. I am excited to see all the pieces come together. And most of all I am so excited to be transformed into the land of wonderland.

Check it out!
